My First Entry

Hey there,

Well, here it is! The first official journal entry. A lot is going on right now, so I don't know where to start.

Well, guess what? I'm moving in with Peter! He'd finally had it with his crazed roommate, so he put the word out that he was looking for a new place to live. Good thing Peter works in a popular salon -- he gets the 411 on apartments all the time through his clients. Yesterday, a friend of the salon, Teresa, told Peter that she wanted to unload her apartment on the northern end of Park Slope, so Peter instantly grabbed at the chance to check it out.

We looked at it together, and it was perfect -- very cozy and clean, recently renovated. She's currently the superintendent, so she has access to the great backyard. The rent was also extremely favorable (read: low). He instantly fell in love with it. As we were walking home, he looked at me, and asked, "So, you wanna do it?" I knew where he was getting at immediately.

Of course, I have my fears. What if it's too soon? (We met at the beginning of the year.) I don't wanna ruin this great thing that we have. But, you know, "no day but today", right? I love the apartment, I love Peter, and I'll be paying half of what I do now. HALF! (That's a lot of cash here in New York.) We've talked a lot about it, a lot about us, and it's both what we want.

As soon as we got home, we started calling our respective friends and family. I've only told my parents, my best friends, Brett and Henry (and now you), because I don't wanna jinx it. I just wanna make sure the apartment is totally ours. Peter talked to Teresa today, and it really sounds like a go. She said we can move in as early as the 15th!

The timing's right: my lease is up at the end of the month. I have to tell my current roommate, Michael. I hate springing this on him, because he's living in Massachusetts for the summer, and if he has to move, it'll probably be a huge hassle for him. I hope he can afford to stay (read: find a new roommate).

Speaking of new roommates, I have a new one for the summer. He's subletting Michael's room. He's a really nice guy from Iowa named Jim. I took him to Friends Tavern on Thursday, and that was fun. It looks like he's gonna fit in with the Brooklyn crowd just fine.

Alyson, me, and Matt last fallTomorrow, Peter and I are spending the Fourth with Alyson and Matt at their home in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Their having a barbecue-type thing in their backyard. My parents live just a few miles up the road from there, and it's really a great area.. lots of trees and space. Alyson and Matt's house is pretty much right on the campus of Rutgers University. Should be a lot of fun. I'll show you pictures soon.

Well, time for bed. I've got a beautiful boy lying naked in the room next door. ;-)

Yours,
D.J.
